Summary:
This tutorial shows how to convert Publisher to PDF. novaPDF is a PDF converter that allows creating PDF files from any Windows application that supports printing. If you don't have novaPDF installed, use the Download page to download and install it.

Details:
Microsoft Office Publisher is a desktop publishing application that allows creating publications for print or web. Once your print publication is designed if you need to send it for review, physically printing or share it with your team, it's recommended that you convert it to a PDF. Document sharing is easier using PDF files, because the recipient does not need to have Publisher installed in order to open the PDF (being also multi-platform, same PDF can be opened both on Windows and Mac powered systems) and by converting it the original design of the publication remains unaltered. novaPDF is a PDF creator that once installed it offers an option to print your publication to a PDF file - simply choose novaPDF as a printer and once you click the Print button your publication will be converted to a PDF.

Convert publications created with Publisher to PDF files (2007)

novaPDF is installed as a virtual printer so you can create PDF files simply by printing to it instead of your normal printer. To convert your Microsoft Office Publisher document to a PDF file (Publisher 2007):
  1. Open Microsoft Office Publisher 2007 and go to File->Open (or press Ctrl+O), browse for the publication you want converted to PDF and open it
  2. Go to File->Print (or press Ctrl+P) and in the Publication and Paper Settings section choose novaPDF as the Printer name. In this section you can also setup the paper settings (source, size and orientation) and preview the printed file
  3. Before creating the PDF file you can adjust novaPDF's settings by using the Properties button (for instance adding document information, using auto-save options, embedding fonts)
  4. Click on Print and choose a location where you want the PDF file saved. After the PDF document is created it will be automatically opened in the default PDF viewer (by default, but this can be configured too using novaPDF’s Properties window)

Convert publications created with Publisher to PDF files (2003 or previous)

novaPDF is installed as a virtual printer so you can create PDF files simply by printing to it instead of your normal printer. To convert your Microsoft Office Publisher file to a PDF (Publisher 2003 or previous versions):
  1. Open Microsoft Office Publisher 2003 and go to File->Open, browse for the publication you want converted to PDF and open it
  2. Go to File->Print and in the Printer section select novaPDF
  3. Before creating the PDF file you can adjust novaPDF's settings by using the Properties button (for instance adding document information, using auto-save options, embedding fonts)
  4. Click on OK and choose a location where you want the PDF file saved. After the PDF is created it will be automatically opened in the default PDF viewer (by default, but this can be configured too using novaPDF's Properties window).

How to print multiple publications to a single sheet PDF

Publisher has an option that allows printing a publication several times onto a single sheet (this option is available only when the publication is a business card, postcard or index card). To have the same publication printed several times on one PDF sheet:
  1. Open the publication that you want to convert to a PDF file
  2. Go to File->Print and select novaPDF from the Printers list
  3. Click on the Change Copies per Sheet button to open the Small Publication Print Options
  4. On the Small Publication Print Options select Print multiple copies per sheet and after that click Ok (additionally you could set up margin options for it))
  5. Click on Print and choose a location where to save the PDF file (auto-save can be configured too by accessing the Properties->Save tab of the novaPDF Printer)
create PDF from Wordpad

Starting with version 6, novaPDF now includes a PDF merging (combining) option, so another way to have multiple publisher files printed to a single PDF would be to use novaPDF's own merge option. This will let you print a publication to PDF, and after that print other publications to the same pdf (before, after or as background/foreground for the existing PDF). You can read more about the PDF merging option here: Merge PDF files with novaPDF

I edit a variety of multi-page documents written in MS Publisher. Unfortunately, most are "book" types, where there are 2 pages/ sheet of paper, and each sheet is printed on both sides. I need to convert to pdf files for
a) on-line viewing (pages must appear in order)
b) sending to a printer for publication

Will your novaPDF do both of these tasks?

Every year I create a calendar for my refrigerator in Publisher. Because it has a lot of color, I like to print them on my company's printer, which is so much better than my Lexmark. But I don't have Publisher on my work computer. Your program (the Lite version) is so slick, that it is no longer an issue! I will definitely purchase this program; I don't want to ever be without it. Thank you!
