Starting with version 6, novaPDF (any edition) can create PDF/A-1b (RGB) compliant PDF files. PDF/A is a PDF file format used for long-term archiving of documents in electronic format. It uses PDF Reference 1.4 (implemented in Adobe Acrobat 5).

There are 2 ways to create PDF/A-1b compliant PDF files with novaPDF:

  1. Go to Start->Devices and Printers, right-click novaPDF and go to Printing Preferences. From the Profiles tab, select a profile you want to always create PDF/A-1b compliant PDFs and click on Edit. In the Options section check the PDF/A-1b (RGB) option (click OK on the prompt informing you about the restrictions PDF/A imposes). From now on, whenever this profile will be active, PDF/A-1b compliant PDF files will be created.
  2. The Extended Save As dialog is set to show on each print by default. Whenever you print a PDF file with novaPDF, on this Extended Save As dialog you can check the PDF/A-1b (RGB) option to create PDF/A compliant PDF files. Note that this option applies only to the document currently being printed, it's not saved in the printing profile, so if you want to always create PDF/A compliant documents by default, follow the first tutorial.

Note: When the PDF/A -1b (RGB) option is checked, several options will be set as default ones to ensure the compatibility: the Fonts will be Always embedded, the file links option will be unchecked (if checked previously) and all Security settings will be disabled.

Applies to:

  • novaPDF Printer 6.x or higher
